Dearauthors and colleagues!

Our journal is now facing a certain period of “mature assessment”. We have ceased to be a special journal for a narrow community of political linguistics lovers. According to the 2012 statistics we have firmly established ourselves among the top 10 highly cited linguistic journals of Russia. And that means that the scope of our authors and readers has considerably grown.

It is now that we decided to formulate the main editorial principles of our journal which will make it easier for new authors to join us and will help to establish constructive partnership. 

Looking back at our experience of many years of work, at the traditions of the journal that have taken definite shape, and with reference to the world principles of editorial ethics (Source: Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors (http://publicationethics.org/resources/code-conduct) etc.) we formulate the general editorial principles of our journal. 

We hope that the given principles will be accepted by all who take a certain part in the life of our journal – by authors, reviewers, editors, publishers, distributors and readers.

General Principles of the Journal “Political Linguistics”

We respect the national peculiarities of political communication, connected with the history, culture and political system of each state.

We consider it necessary to observe the principles of tolerance and political correctness including articles written in the framework of critical discourse analysis.

We proceed from the assumption that the fact of analysis of political texts written by political extremists does not necessarily mean that the author of publication or the editorial board in any way shares the position of the given political leader or journalist.

Both words in the name “political linguistics” are meaningful to us. Although we consider our journal to be a linguistic one, yet we are eager to give the floor to politologists, psychologists, sociologists and specialists in other social sciences and humanities.

We strive for accessibility and that is why our journal is published on the free site of scientific journals of the Ural State Pedagogical University journals.uspu.ru, in the Scientific E-library, and on the site cognitiv.narod.ru, where other publications on the problems of political linguistics, mostly written by representatives of the Ural School of Political Linguistics, are uploaded.

We seek after preservation of scientific traditions. This aim is in the focus of attention of our section “History of Political Linguistics” which publishes newly translated into Russian articles which were written decades ago but are still important for the theory and history of the discipline.

We invite to active participation all those who are interested in the problems of political linguistics. We shall be particularly grateful for help in the search of materials for the section of “History of Political Linguistics”: unfortunately it becomes more and more difficult to find voluntary translators, so we shall be extremely thankful if somebody should find and translate an interesting text or should act as translator of the text chosen by the editorial board. It is well known that in accordance with the decision of the expert council of VAK the publication of a translation is considered for the translator as a publication of a scientific article, which may be important for his or her dissertation defense. The editorial board will be also grateful for reviews of new interesting works in the areas covered by our journal.

Principles of the Editor of the Journal “Political Linguistics”

In taking decisions about the publication of the article our editors are primarily concerned with the scientific potential of the reviewed paper and the novelty of the submitted material.

Our editors seek to evaluate the intellectual content of the manuscripts irrespective of race, sex, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, origin, citizenship, social status or political preferences of the authors. Taking into account the specific nature of the journal the latter declaration is more important: as we have already stated we are against political censorship and respect the political views of the authors of our publications, though we may not always agree with them.

The editor should be careful not to publish the information if there is enough evidence that it is plagiarism. We remind that beginning with May 2012 all submitted articles are tested by the “Antiplagiat” system.

We would like to establish close contact with our authors. In view of this our editors answer all questions concerning the reviewed articles or published materials and should a disputable situation arise we try to keep the scientific balance by giving the authors a chance to correctly express their point of view.

Principles of the Author of the Journal “Political Linguistics”

The authors of the articles should submit reliable results of the undertaken research. Conclusions and statements which are known to be erroneous or falsified cannot be accepted.

The authors must guarantee that the results of the research in the submitted manuscript are fully original. Excessive quoting and plagiarism in any form including unsigned citations, paraphrasing or stealing the rights for results of somebody else’s research is considered unethical and unacceptable.

It is necessary to pay tribute to all persons who influenced the research in any way. The article should contain references to the works used while conducting the given research.

The authors should not submit articles previously sent to another journal and being reviewed there, as well as articles already published in a different journal. Such “researches” are returned to the author with the indication of the place of previous publication and with good regards from the editors.

All persons who have made a considerable contribution into the research should be mentioned as co-authors. It is inadmissible to indicate as co-authors those who didn’t take part in the research.

Should the author find serious blunders or errors in the text of the article during its revision or after publication he must inform the editorial board about it as soon as possible. In this case we publish the correction in the next issue of the journal.

We cannot afford to pay fees to literary editors and proof-readers and that is why responsibility for inaccuracy in citations and other faults rests fully with the authors of the publications.
